Fingerprinting:
Corrections staff also conduct fingerprinting of individuals for various reasons. The reasons include concealed pistol license applications, certain job applications such as school employees, and professional license applicants such as licensed day cares. The fingerprints are compared with fingerprint records around the country that may have been involved in criminal activity. They are also stored by the Michigan State Police as a form of identification for the person fingerprinted. We also fingerprints individuals who are victims of crimes to compare their fingerprints to fingerprints located at their crime scene. These are called “elimination prints”. In 2023 the Sheriff’s Office fingerprinted 141 people for these reasons.
