he Alcona County Sheriff’s Office provides a Deputy to work full time as a School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Alcona Community School District. In April 2023, The Sheriff’s Office and School District entered into a formal agreement for SRO services. The agreement ensures the full time presence of the Deputy at the school while the district is in session.
The RSO is responsible for providing police services on the school campus. The RSO presence at the school provides security to the campus. Other RSO duties include conducting criminal investigations that occur at the school, truancy investigations, participating in lockdown drills, educating staff and students for emergency response, Further, these programs and activities build a positive relationship between the students and staff with the law enforcement community.
Deputy Franklin was assigned to work as the SRO for 2023. He worked full time while the school district was in session for both the spring and fall semesters. In June of 2023 Deputy Franklin attended the National Association of School Resource Officers Basic SRO Course. The 40 hour training is required for police officers to work in school districts where an agreement is in place that uses grant funding.
