Corrections:

Even though the Alcona County Jail is not fully staffed and housing inmates overnight, the Sheriff’s Office is still conducting much of its business as usual.  The jail is able to accept defendants to be arrested, booked, and bonded out in Alcona County on a limited basis. Defendants cited for misdemeanor offences normally turn themselves in to the jail for booking before their first court appearance which is called an arraignment.  After arraignment, they are able to post bail in order to be released.  If the defendant is unable to post bail, they would then be transported to the Iosco County Jail where they would await trial.  In 2023, 64 defendants were booked through the Alcona County Jail.

Defendants arrested while the Alcona County Jail is not staffed are lodged directly in the Iosco County Jail until they are able to post bail or until their court hearing.  In 2023, 109 defendants were arrested in Alcona County and lodged directly in the Iosco County Jail.
