Animal Control:

In Alcona County, the Sheriff has been designated as the animal control agency for the county.  The Sheriff does not assign one Deputy specifically to animal control; the entire road patrol staff is capable of handling animal abuse/neglect cases, animal bite reports, animal at large complaints, and transporting strays to the Humane Society.  The Sheriff’s Office works closely with the Alcona Humane Society to ensure the quick return of pets to the owners and the adoption of those animals surrendered.  In 2023 the Sheriff’s office handled 12 complaints of animal abuse/neglect, 23 animal bite reports, and 103 animals at large or running loose.  We also transported 47 animals to the Humane Society.
