The Alcona County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the law enforcement position of Deputy Sheriff. Alcona County is located in Northeastern Michigan along the shores of Lake Huron.  The county is 1,791 square miles, with 675 of those miles being land, and a population of almost 11,000 residents.  The Sheriff’s Office operates a 24-hour Road Patrol, Jail, Marine Patrol, ORV Patrol, Snowmobile Patrol, and Court Security.  In conjunction with normal law enforcement duties sworn police officers also have the opportunity to specialize in Accident Investigation, Evidence Technicians, Emergency Response Team, and School Resource Police Officer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF DEPUTY SHERIFF

  • MCOLES Certifiable
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License
  • Be able to pass a Physical Exam, Background Check, and Drug Screen
  • Must have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions

RESPONSIBILITIES OF DEPUTY SHERIFF

  • Enforcement of Local and State laws
  • Conducting Patrol Duties
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Responding to Emergency Situations
  • Directing Traffic
  • Preparing Detailed Reports
  • Drafting Search Warrants
  • Courtroom Security
  • Civil Process Service

REQUIREMENTS OF DEPUTY SHERIFF

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien
  • Must be able to observe situations analytically and objectively and to record them clearly and completely
  • Must be able to react quickly and calmly in emergencies
  • Must be able to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing
  • Must be able to develop skill in the use and care of firearms
